Torpedowce szkierowe

 Tym razem maleństwa – fińskie torpedowce szkierowe;) Jak wiadomo, wybrzeże Finlandii cechuje się znacznym urozmaiceniem, a dominującym jego elementem są szkiery – setki małych wysepek powstałych przez zalanie obszarów polodowcowych. Takie ukształtowanie wód przybrzeżnych stwarza, jak sądzę, dogodne warunki do niespodziewanych ataków torpedowych małych jednostek na okręty ewentualnego agresora. Oczywiście, można by w tej roli widzieć także kutry torpedowe, ale w owym czasie (przełom lat 20/30) nie każdy, a może wręcz mało kto potrafił zbudować skuteczne i udane jednostki tej klasy (można zaryzykować tezę, że tylko Włosi?). Ponadto taki torpedowiec ma jednak większą uniwersalność – może bowiem dzięki większym rozmiarom i autonomiczności wykonywać także inne funkcje – np. dozorowca, trałowca, czy małego stawiacza min (po odpowiedniej adaptacji).

Syjamski stawiacz min

 Dziś „syjamski Gryf” – czyli okręt o dwojakiej funkcji, stawiacza min o okrętu szkolnego. Projekt jednostki oparty został o niemiecki stawiacz min Albatross, który poddano lekkim modyfikacjom. Kadłub okrętu nieco wydłużono. Zmodyfikowano uzbrojenie, zastępując dziobowe i rufowe działa 88 mm działami 120 mm (model hipotetyczny, używany we flocie syjamskiej na krążowniku Chulalongkorn i na „kanonierko-niszczycielach”), natomiast działa 88 mm L/35 ze śródokręcia – nowszym modelem L/45. Na śródokręciu zlokalizowano powiększoną nadbudówkę z pomieszczeniami dydaktycznymi. Kajuty dla kadetów zlokalizowano natomiast w kadłubie, o czym świadczy zwiększona ilość bulajów. W tym samym miejscu, w przypadku pełnienia funkcji stawiacza min, rozmieszczone zostają miny i tory minowe. W takim wypadku okręt zabiera 400 min.

400 mines

Dżin z butelki :)

 Jednym z najbardziej niezwykłych pancerników Royal Navy w PWS (jak i pancerników w ogóle) był Agincourt. Odstawał od standardów tej floty dość znacznie, zarówno pod względem opancerzenia, jak i uzbrojenia i do składu brytyjskiej battleline pasował tak sobie. Podsunęło mi to już kiedyś pomysł (być może nawet prezentowany na starym blogu) na przeróbkę tego okrętu na krążownik liniowy. Przebudowa mocno zaawansowanego w budowie okrętu siłą rzeczy nie jest radykalna. Obejmuje likwidację dwóch wież ze śródokręcia i montaż w tym miejscu dodatkowej maszynowni i kotłowni oraz przystosowanie wszystkich kotłów (nowych i starych) do opalania paliwem płynnym. Usunięto też wszystkie działa 76 mm o wątpliwej przydatności, w zamian montując 4 działa plot. o takim samym kalibrze. Oczywiście, zlikwidowano też „pomost” na śródokręciu na którym spoczywały łodzie okrętowe, przenosząc je na poziom pokładu. Wreszcie, z żalem zdecydowałem się usunąć maszt rufowy i usunąć stengę masztu dziobowego. Z żalem, bo ujęło to okrętowi urody, ale ponieważ na realnym Agincourcie też tak postąpiono, to uznałem, że w alternatywie niestety też tak trzeba. Opancerzenie, w sumie odpowiadające standardowi brytyjskich krążowników liniowych pozostało niezmienione. Dzięki silniejszym maszynom udało się natomiast (wg springsharpa) osiągnąć 27,5 w., co wydaje się, że daje całkiem wartościową jednostkę w składzie sił Beatty’ego. Kto wie, może w takiej formie przydałby się pod Jutlandią bardziej niż jak w rzeczywistości, w składzie sił głównych Jellicoe? A przy okazji powstaje okazja do obmyślenia jakiejś innej ciekawej jednostki – bowiem mamy do dyspozycji dwie niezagospodarowane wieże dział 305 mm ;)

Pancernik z recyklingu

Kolejny projekt na blogu jest przykładem okrętowego recyklingu :) Dla tego portugalskiego okrętu artyleryjskiego (o klasyfikacji parę słów później) artyleria główna (wieże wraz z barbetami) pochodzi z monitorów typu Abercrombie, artyleria średnia (działa 152 mm L/45 Mk VII) z krążowników typu Cressy, siłownia  z monitorów typu Abercrombie, pancerz burtowy (229 mm, o wys. 4,57 m) oraz pancerz pokładowy (płyty o grubości 76 mm i 25 mm) i z pancernika Implacable (typu Formidable), końcówki pancerza burtowego (o grubości 102 mm) z krążowników typu Monmouth, stanowisko dowodzenia o grubości 305 mm z pancernika Exmouth (typu Duncan). Znaczna część wyposażenia również pochodzi z odzysku. Sądzę, że również działka 40 mm mogą pochodzić z wycofanych jednostek, choć wobec ich mnogości nie ma chyba sensu wskazywać konkretnego „dawcy”. Mogło ich być zresztą kilku. Nowy jest tylko kadłub, o maksymalnie uproszczonej konstrukcji i bryle (proste burty, brak wzniosu pokładu, brak grodzi przeciwtorpedowych zastąpionych przez bąble), oraz nadbudówki, maszty i kominy. W sumie więc można przyjąć, że okręt mógłby powstać w cenie stanowiącej ułamek ceny nowego okrętu porównywalnej wielkości, gdyż elementy z odzysku jak sądzę, były by nabyte w cenie złomu. Wydaje się, że była by to ciekawa i tania propozycja okrętu dla niezamożnego klienta, jakim w latach 20-tych była Portugalia.
Natomiast co do klasyfikacji jednostki, to kształty i proporcje kadłuba, niską prędkość, wykorzystanie artylerii z odzysku sugerowały by że jest to rodzaj ciężkiego monitora. Jednak przyjmując kryterium funkcjonalne, byłby to raczej pancernik obrony wybrzeża. Zważywszy, że w taki właśnie sposób byłby najprawdopodobniej wykorzystywany (Portugalia raczej nie miała zamiarów ostrzeliwać czyichkolwiek wybrzeży), to osobiści skłaniam się ku tej drugiej opcji.

Pancernik Hamidiye

 Historia budowy centralnobateryjnego pancernika Hamidiye to obraz zapaści państwa tureckiego w pigułce. Okręt ten rozpoczęto budować w Stambule w 1874 r., wodowano go w 1885, a ukończono – w 1894 r. (!) Wobec oczywistej przestarzałości konstrukcji , okręt wcielono do służby już tylko jako stacjonarny okręt-baza dla torpedowców, zatem to „ukończenie” należy traktować ze sporym przymrużeniem oka. Siłami własnymi Turcji nie dało się pewnie osiągnąć wtedy nic więcej, dlatego po zwodowaniu postuluję odholowanie kadłuba pancernika do stoczni w innym kraju i tam ukończenie go według zmodernizowanych planów. To dało by szansę na uzyskanie w miarę wartościowej jednostki jeszcze w latach 80-tych. Sądzę, że najbardziej prawdopodobnym było by kontynuowanie budowy w Niemczech. Zmiany planów jednostki objęły by w takim przypadku:
zamianę uzbrojenia w kazamatach na 4 działa Kruppa kal. 260 mm w dwóch otwartych barbetach
montaż lżejszego uzbrojenia w postaci dział kal. 150 mm oraz lekkich działek szybkostrzelnych kal. 37 mm przeciw torpedowcom , montaż wyrzutni torped kal. 350 mm. montaż nowoczesnego pancerza compound o grubości 305 mm zamiast pierwotnie przewidzianego żelaznego o grubości 229 mm oraz montaż nowoczesnych maszyn parowych potrójnego rozprężania pozwalających na uzyskanie 15,3 w. z jednoczesną rezygnacją z ożaglowania.

Przebudowa predrednota Albion na transportowiec wojska

 W czasie PWS kilka spośród brytyjskich predrednotów było wykorzystywanych jako transportowce wojska (np. Magnificent, Mars, Hannibal). Niestety, nigdzie nie natrafiłem na szczegóły adaptacji tych okrętów do nowej roli . Możliwe, że żadnej większej przebudowy nie przeprowadzano, a żołnierzy upychano „gdzie bądź”. Warunki wojenne nie do takich prowizorek czasem prowadziły, więc sądzę, że było to możliwe, zwłaszcza jeśli chodziło o doraźne wykorzystanie okrętów w nietypowej dla nich roli.
Zainspirował mnie ten przypadek natomiast do próby autentycznej adaptacji predrednota (typu Canopus) do roli transportowca wojska. W tym celu z okrętu usunięto artylerię główną oraz działa artylerii średniej w kazamatach kadłubowych. W roli uzbrojenia do samoobrony pozostały jedynie 4 działa kal. 152 mm i 6 – kal. 76 mm w kazamatach nadbudówki. Pomieszczenia dla przewożonych żołnierzy zaaranżowano w kadłubie na dziobie i rufie w miejscu dotychczasowych komór amunicyjnych i barbet, oraz na śródokręciu w miejscu zlikwidowanych kazamat dział kal. 152 mm. Oprócz tego, kolejne pomieszczenia umieszczono w na dziobie i na rufie w nowych nadbudówkach. Zlikwidowano pancerne stanowisko dowodzenia, a pomost nawigacyjny przeniesiono do przodu, ponad nowo wzniesioną nadbudówkę dziobową. Oczywiście, załoga okrętu w nowej roli została drastycznie ograniczona (do maksymalnie 400 osób), zatem możliwe stało się rozmieszczenie części żołnierzy w dotychczasowych kajutach marynarzy.
Oceniam, że po takiej przebudowie okręt może jednorazowo przewieźć około 1500 żołnierzy. Raczej bez większej ilości uzbrojenia czy wyposażenia, gdyż nie bardzo było gdzie zorganizować większe kubaturowo ładownie. Zakładam, że sprzęt będzie transportowany osobno, np. w zmobilizowanym statku handlowym.

Przebudowa monitora Neptune

 Tym razem przebudowa nieistniejącego okrętu:) A konkretnie – amerykańskiego monitora z 1880 r., prezentowanego 17 grudnia 2022 r.: http://springsharp.blogspot.com/2022/12/nietypowy-monitor-amerykanski.html
W pierwotnej swej postaci, był to okręt zdecydowanie przeznaczony do roli obrony wybrzeża, z niską wolną burta i ograniczoną mobilnością. Przebudowa miała na celu uczynienie zeń w miarę pełnoprawnego elementu głównych sił floty, mogącego działać na otwartym morzu. W tym celu wymieniono dotychczasowe maszyny parowe na nowoczesne maszyny potrójnego rozprężania, wymieniono zużyte kotły oraz dokonano podwyższenia kadłuba na całej długości o jedną kondygnacją. Po modyfikacji napędu okręt osiąga 15 w. i zasięg 3500 Mm.
Wymieniono uzbrojenie, zastępując odprzodowe działa 330 mm (gwintowane ale będące przeróbką dział gładkolufowych) przez znacznie nowocześniejsze odtylcowe 254 mm, relatywnie długolufowe i mogące używać prochu brązowego (choć używano ponoć także czarnego?). Nowe działa zamontowano we wzorowanych na monitorze Amphitrite wieżach osadzonych na istniejących barbetach. Oprócz tego okręt otrzymał 4 działa szybkostrzelne kal. 127 mm w stanowiskach pokładowych z maskami.
Dla ochrony przed torpedowcami okręt otrzymał standardowy w ówczesnej US Navy zestaw działek Hotchkissa 6- i 1-funtowych (57 i 37 mm).
Wymianie uległ też przestarzały pancerz żelazny. W jego miejsce zainstalowano analogicznych rozmiarów, cieńszy (279 mm) pas nowoczesnego pancerza utwardzanego metodą Harveya. Uwzględniając jego dwukrotnie większą wytrzymałość w stosunku do pancerza żelaznego, należy uznać że nowy pancerz zapewnia ok. 137% odporności starego pancerza żelaznego (stanowi on ekwiwalent około 560 mm pancerza żelaznego, oryginalny pancerz miał 406 mm grubości). W miejsce dotychczasowego pancerza pokładowego o grubości 76 mm z żelaza zainstalowano pancerz o harveyowski o grubości na śródokręciu 57 mm co daje z grubsza 150% odporności dotychczasowego pancerza (na końcach kadłuba pancerz jest zwykły stalowy, z uwagi na trudności w utwardzaniu tak cienkich płyt). Oczywiście, są to tylko wartości orientacyjne, a nie dokładne, ale pokazują, że mimo mniejszych wartości nominalnych grubości pancerza, ochrona kadłuba uległa znaczącej poprawie.
