Tym razem wracam do okrętu, którym się już zajmowałem… dekadę (!) temu. Chodzi o gigantyczny amerykański krążownik liniowy – studium projektowe, mające dać odpowiedź na pytanie jak musiałby wyglądać okręt łączący w sobie wszystkie zasadnicze cechy jednostki bojowej na najwyższym ówcześnie (1912 r.) poziomie. Sprowadzało się to do uzbrojenia w działa 356 mm, opancerzenia na poziomie pancernika, prędkości rzędu 32 w., zasięgu pozwalającego pełnić funkcję rozpoznawczą w skali strategicznej, i niezawodnego napędu wykorzystującego kotły o dużej średnicy opłomek. Przy ówczesnym poziomie technologicznym dało to gigantyczną jednostkę o długości 1250 stóp (381 m!) na LW i wyporności zbliżającej się do 70000 ton (spotkałem się z danymi o 65-67000 ton). Oczywiście, tak jak i poprzednio jednostki nie udało się zmieścić w granicach 70000 ton, ale z tym się oczywiście należało liczyć. Być może wskazuje to na fakt, iż twórcy koncepcji lekko nie doszacowali wyporności (albo przekazy pod tym względem wprowadzają w błąd). Tak czy siak – okręt wygląda imponująco, i jakkolwiek jako jednostka bojowa jest niepraktyczny, to uważam że było warto przysiąść fałdów i go narysować – mnie efekt wizualny satysfakcjonuje ;)
