Ostatnio trwające boje wokół Połągi pokazały iż brakuje w
naszej flocie okrętów, które mogły by skutecznie wspierać działania własnych
wojsk w pasie nadmorskim. Z dwóch posiadanych na Bałtyku monitorów jeden leży
już niestety na dnie, z kolei posiadane kanonierki – co udowadnia niedawny
przypadek Meduzy, mają zbyt duże zanurzenie, aby podejść na taką odległość
blisko brzegu, która umożliwi skuteczny ostrzał z ich niezbyt ciężkich dział
(152 mm i 120 mm). Szczęśliwie, w naszych stoczniach znajdują się niedokończone
jednostki budowane na zamówienie zagraniczne, które wydają się tym potrzebom
nieźle odpowiadać. Są to dwie kanonierki zamówione przed wojną przez Urugwaj z przeznaczeniem do działań w estuarium La Plata, których oczywiście nie dostarczono zamawiającemu i mogły zostać przejęte przez flotę polska. Jednostki te mają wyporność 580 ton i uzbrojone są w 2 działa kal. 152 mm w lekko
opancerzonych wieżach. Lekki pancerz chroni też kadłub na wysokości kotłowni i
maszynowni. Dzięki niedużemu zanurzeniu wynoszącemu tylko 2,75 m, oczekuje się,
że będą mogły bezpieczniej niż starsze typy podchodzić blisko brzegu. W sumie
są to raczej proste i nieskomplikowane jednostki, ale mogą okazać się
przydatne.
