Pancerniki 18-działowe

Dziś projekt pancernika z jedną z największych liczbą dział w historii – 18-działowy projekt stoczni Ansaldo z 1908 r. dla Rosji (choć są też informacje, że był również oferowany Argentynie). Autorem ponoć był sam Cuniberti. Okręt charakteryzuje się nadzwyczaj niecodziennym układem uzbrojenia. Trójdziałowe wieże to jeszcze nic. Najlepsze jest ich rozmieszczenie. Cztery wieże umieszczono bowiem na burtach – jedna para na dziobie, druga na śródokręciu, a pozostałe 2 – w superpozycji na rufie. Przekazów na temat motywacji takiego układu brak, ale być może chodziło o to, że okręt nie miał walczyć w składzie długiej linii bojowej, gdzie najważniejsza jest salwa burtowa, ale pojedynczo lub w składzie nielicznego zespołu, gdzie ważniejsze jest równomierne pokrycie ogniem wszystkich sektorów wokół okrętu.
Mimo iż dość lekko opancerzony i mający standardową prędkość, zamiast projektowych 23 000 ton, okręt liczy sobie 24000 ton. Zatem, jak wiele projektów z tamtego czasu, zwłaszcza wielodziałowych, okazał się nieco niedoszacowany co do wyporności, ale nie aż tak jakby mogło się wydawać na pierwszy rzut oka. Zdaje się to sugerować, że wbrew pozorom, był on jakoś tam policzony, a nie był tylko zbiorem pobożnych życzeń. Nie miał przy tym, rzecz jasna, specjalnych szans na realizację, niemniej jest bardzo ciekawy i niecodzienny i to mi wystarczyło, by się nim zająć. Efekt - poniżej ;)

Monitory fińskie

Zanim powstała para fińskich POW Vainamoinen i Ilmarinen, pojawiło się całkiem sporo propozycji przybrzeżnych okrętów artyleryjskich dla tej floty. Pierwszą była propozycja dowódcy floty, kmdr Von Bonsdorffa z 1921 r., przewidująca budowę 4 „monitorów przybrzeżnych” o wyporności 3500 ton, wymiarach 84x18,3 m, prędkości 12 w. i uzbrojeniu… 6x305 (!). Bliższych szczegółów jednostki niestety brak, nie zachował się też żaden jej szkic, stąd charakterystyki i wygląd jednostki są moją fantazją. Oczywiście, wyporność była absolutnie niewystarczająca dla tak ciężkiego uzbrojenia. Zatem symulacja sprowadzała się do wyzwania polegającego na umieszczeniu tego uzbrojenia w jak najmniejszej wyporności. Z pewnym trudem okręt udało się „zmieścić” na 4300 ton. Niecodzienna jest sylwetka jednostki, która cechuje się nadzwyczaj niską wolną burtą niczym amerykańskie monitory z czasów wojny secesyjnej, ale wyposażona jest w całkiem współczesne wieże działowe.
Co ciekawe, projekt został odrzucony nie ze względu na nierealność pod względem technicznym, ale przez uwarunkowania finansowe…

Zmodernizowany Danton

Kolejny okręt będący owocem dyskusji mojej z kol. Jasta :) Tym razem krążownik, będący modyfikacją ostatniego z semidrednotów typu Danton. Decyzja o modyfikacji planów zapadła jeszcze, gdy okręt był na pochylni, zatem jej zakres mógł być całkiem szeroki. Z pierwotnego projektu usunięto wszystkie wieże dział kal. 240 mm. Zamiast nich zamontowano baterię dział kal. 138 mm, część w wieżach, część w kazamatach po działach kal. 75 mm. Tych ostatnich na okręcie zachowano 16 szt. Mimo początkowych zamiarów odchudzenia pancerza udało się go zachować na pancernikowym poziomie: burtowy liczy sobie 270 mm, a pokładowy – 93 mm. Zrezygnowano natomiast z górnego pasa pancernego o grubości 48 mm, który ponoć był w pierwotnym projekcie (choć nie bardzo widzę gdzie niby miałby być), a którego przydatność i tak była przy takiej grubości mocno wątpliwa. Powiększona przestrzeń wewnątrz kadłuba pozwoliła natomiast zamontować silniejszy napęd turbinowy, o zmodyfikowanym sposobie opalania kotłów (węgiel i ropa). Uwzględniwszy przekonstruowanie dziobu, dało to rezultaty w postaci prędkości 25,5 w. Dałoby się i więcej, ale nie chciałem przesadzać ;)

Wstępny wariant pancernika New Mexico

Dziś jeden z wstępnych wariantów pancernika New Mexico – projekt 5 z października 1913 r. Według niego, okręt miał być dość nietypowy. Postawiono w nim na zmniejszenie ilości dział artylerii głównej do 6, ale za to przy zwiększonym kalibrze do 406 mm (kaliber, jakiego nie miał żaden okręt pierwszowojenny, pomijając Furiousa;)), oraz nadzwyczaj grube opancerzenie (w radykalnym wariancie All or nothing) wynoszące 483 mm na burcie (więcej, niż Yamato!), 635 mm na czołach wież (grubo, zgodnie z praktyką US Navy), oraz więcej niż przyzwoite 108 mm na pokładzie. Wszystko to przy zachowaniu standardowej prędkości wynoszącej 21 w. miało się zamknąć w wyporności normalnej 35500 ton. US Navy przewidywała wówczas raczej umiarkowane dystanse walki, na których te 108 mm pancerza pokładowego miało okazać się wystarczające. Gorzej, gdyby nie udało się skrócić dystansu, a przeciwnik zacząłby się wstrzeliwać. Z drugiej strony – być może miałby on jeszcze gorzej, bo sam mógłby obrywać 16-calowymi kuferkami, na które chyba żaden okręt pierwszowojenny nie był odporny, zwłaszcza pod względem opancerzenia horyzontalnego. Jakkolwiek by się nie okazało, projekt wydał mi się całkiem ciekawy i godzien pochylenia się nad nim. A jakby tak jeszcze zrobić brytyjską odpowiedź na niego – pancernik z działami 457 mm? To by mogło być nietuzinkowe ;)

Moździerzowce

W pierwszej połowie XIX w. Brytyjczycy niemal zupełnie zaniedbali rozwój okrętów moździerzowych. Po wojnach napoleońskich siłą rozpędu wcielali jeszcze nieliczne okręty typu Hecla (8 jednostek z lat 1814-1829, z kolejnych czterech zrezygnowano), ale u progu lat 30-tych rozwoju tej klasy okrętów zupełnie zaniechano. W efekcie, w czasie wojny krymskiej okazało się, że Royal Navy nie dysponuje okrętami zdolnymi ostrzeliwać cele lądowe ogniem stromotorowym, a to akurat okazało się być potrzebne. Konieczne okazały się więc rozwiązania improwizowane, w rodzaju pospiesznie budowanych bądź kupowanych jednostek (w tym nawet portowych lichtug!), których wcielono do służby całą chmarę. Było to jednak rozwiązanie tymczasowe, a na dłuższą metę luka pozostała. Stąd pomysł na poniższy okręt. Jest to nowoczesny moździerzowiec parowo-żaglowy, z pełnym ożaglowaniem rejowym, o wyporności 690 ton, uzbrojony w 2 moździerze 13-calowe (umownie 300-funtowe – od wagi potencjalnej pełnej kuli odpowiadającej temu kalibrowi, choć mam świadomość że w epoce takiego oznaczenia w odniesieniu do tej broni akurat nie używano) o wadze 5,3 tony, mogące strzelać ważącymi 91 kg pociskami na dystans 4000 jardów (3,6 km) oraz 8 dział 32-funtowych do obrony przed innymi okrętami. Ma na pokładzie maszynę parową o mocy 418 KM zapewniającą prędkość 10 w. Okręt ma małe zanurzenie wynoszące 3 m, przez co zapewne cechują go nienadzwyczajne właściwości żeglarskie, ale co też pozwala mu podchodzić blisko brzegu. Cały typ liczy sobie 8 jednostek, zwodowanych w latach 1857-1860.

Przeciwlotniczy Bałtyk

Pod koniec lat 20-tych pojawił się pomysł zaadaptowania niedawno nabytego od Francji ORP Bałtyk na okręt obrony przeciwlotniczej. Głównym uzbrojeniem jednostki w tej roli miało być 8 dział Schneidera kal. 75 mm. Reszta jest już moją fantazją. Oprócz wspomnianych dział okręt otrzymał 10 działek Hotchkissa kal. 47 mm przystosowanych do strzelania plot. oraz 4  wkm-y kal. 13,2 mm, również Hotchkissa. W celu poprawienia kątów ostrzału usunięto jeden z kominów. Niestety okręt pozostał nieruchomą baterią, jako że wały napędowe miał już usunięte (choć 3 z 5 kotłów chyba wciąż były na pokładzie).
Jak widać, zakres adaptacji nie jest duży, zatem w niczym nie przeszkadza on jednostce pełnienia funkcji faktycznie przez nią wypełnianych, czyli hulka mieszkalnego,  okrętu szkolnego, jednostki reprezentacyjnej itp.

Włoski "pancernik maksymalny"

Niemal zaraz po zakończeniu projektowania pancerników typu Caracciolo, ich główny projektant inż. Ferrati przystąpił do projektowania ich następców, mających być największymi możliwymi do zbudowania i eksploatacji przy ówczesnej włoskiej infrastrukturze. Efektem było co najmniej kilka wariantów okrętów uzbrojonych w 12 dział 381 mm, mających pancerz burtowy grubości rzędu 270 mm i rozwijających 25-27 w. Poniżej prezentuję symulację wariantu D’. Okręt wykazuje spore podobieństwa do Caracciolo, jak chodzi o kształty kadłuba oraz podział wewnętrzny. Jego osobliwością miał być unikatowy, podział maszynowni i kotłowni na poszczególne pomieszczenia. Każdy kocioł, każda turbina i przekładnia miały być w osobnym pomieszczeniu, ponadto miały one być rozmieszone niesymetrycznie, w czterech rzędach w przekroju poprzecznym i dziewięciu rzędach w widoku  z boku, co łącznie dawało 36 oddzielnych pomieszczeń. Niesymetryczność rozkładu powodowała że różny był stopień ochrony poszczególnych elementów układu napędowego (bo różna była ich odległość od burty), a wały napędowe były niesymetrycznie rozmieszczone (pod względem swojej długości).
Nie do końca jest jasne jakie działa okręt miał otrzymać. Mowa jest o działach L/45, więc możliwe, że chodzi o nowy, hipotetyczny model dział, albo działo brytyjskie z 1912 r. przeznaczone oryginalnie dla brazylijskiego pancernika Riachuelo, które ostatecznie trafiły do hiszpańskiej artylerii nadbrzeżnej. Jest też możliwe, że okręty miały by otrzymać po prostu ten sam model, co przewidziany dla Caraccciolo (L/40). Ja przychyliłem się  do opcji działa L/45 konstrukcji brytyjskiej, niewykluczone że wyprodukowanego we Włoszech. Działa 152 mm L/50 i 102 mm L/50 z braku takich armat w ówczesnej flocie włoskiej, są modelami hipotetycznymi, przy czym rozmieszczenie tych ostatnich jest całkowicie moją fantazją, gdyż oryginalny projekt nie prezentował ich lokalizacji.
