Czas bliżej przedstawić zdobycz wspomnianą w poprzednim
poście. Statek Steinmetz to jednostka pasażersko-towarowa zbudowana na
przełomie wieków i należąca przed wojną do armatora Norddeutsche Lloyd (NDL).
Jest to jednostka zbliżona kształtem i rozmiarami do takich realnie
istniejących statków jak Graf Waldersee czy Pretoria. Po wybuchu wojny statek
został zmobilizowany i wykorzystany w charakterze pomocniczego zaopatrzeniowca
dla eskadry krążowników w Niemieckiej Afryce Wschodniej. W naszej flocie będzie
również okrętem zaopatrzeniowym, mogącym także pełnić rolę transportowca wojska
(w tym wariancie może zabrać do 2000 żołnierzy). Jako okręt wchodzący w skład
Marynarki Wojennej, nasz nowy zaopatrzeniowiec otrzymał symboliczne uzbrojenie
w postaci 2 dział kal. 75 mm. Przyznaję, że to niewiele, ale nic specjalnie
lepszego nie było na podorędziu, a jeśli jednostka miała zachować swoje
zdolności transportowe (a miała!), to też nie bardzo było gdzie wcisnąć coś
więcej.
