Amerykański semidrednot

Zanim pojawiły się drednoty, powstało wiele ciekawych projektów okrętów stanowiących ogniwo pośrednie, między drednotem i predrednotem. Jednym z nich był amerykański projekt z 1902 r., przewidujący okręt uzbrojony wyłącznie w ciężkie działa (chodzi tu o działa służące do walki z pancernikami), ale jeszcze nie monokalibrowy. Miałby on mieć 6 dział kal. 305 mm i 6 kal. 254 mm, rozmieszczonych w trójdziałowych wieżach. Oprócz tego, miał posiadać też artylerię przeciw torpedowcom w postaci dział kal. 127 mm L/60. Projekt nie przeszedł jak się wydaje wskutek trójdziałowych wież, co jest o tyle dziwne, że jak na US Navy nie byłaby to jakaś wielka ekstrawagancja – w końcu wcześniej nie wahali się oni ustawiać wieże jedna na drugiej...

Diagonalny krążownik liniowy Ernest Renan

Czy poniższy projekt jest z epoki (raczej nie spodziewam się), czy też jest jakąś współczesną fantazją, tego nie wiem. Ale na pewno jest intrygujący. Znalazłem go swego czasu w internecie i od tego czasu chodził za mną i nie dawał spokoju. Musiałem się więc nim w końcu zająć;) Zwłaszcza, że swego czasu dyskutowaliśmy o okrętach z diagonalnym ustawieniem artylerii w okresie międzywojennym, i tym , jak takie jednostki mogły by wyglądać i czy w ogóle miały by rację bytu. No i rzecz się zmaterializowała w postaci takiego oto francuskiego cudaka – poziomem oryginalności nawiązującego, a może nawet przebijającego osiągnięcia francuskiej szkoły budownictwa okrętowego z XIX w. ;)

"Krążownik" szkierowy

Dziś nietypowy okręt – „krążownik” szkierowy, oczywiście dla Finlandii :) W założeniu ma to być okręt artyleryjski przeznaczony do działań defensywnych wśród szkierów, ale mniejszy niż pancerniki typu Vainamoinen. Dzięki małemu zanurzeniu ma mieć dużą swobodę w operowaniu na płytkich wodach, blisko wybrzeża i wśród licznych wysepek w które obfitują przybrzeżne akweny Finlandii. Zakładam, że dałby radę wpływać również tam, gdzie z racji gabarytów (głównie zanurzenia) nie dały by rady wspomniane pancerniki. Prędkość w tym wypadku nie jest najważniejsza, stąd umiarkowane 22 w. Natomiast artyleria kalibru 152 mm (produkcji szwedzkiej) ma pozwolić na bezproblemowe zwalczanie największych okrętów przeciwnika jakie w moim odczuciu mogą być w stanie zapuścić się na szkiery, czyli niszczycieli. Obronę plot. Stanowią 4 40 mm pom-pomy oraz 6 20 mm działek Madsena. Napęd, wzorem pancerników stanowią silniki diesel-elektryczne. Oczywiście, jak na „krążownik” przystało okręt ma opancerzenie (co prawda lekkie) a wymiarami, by zachować jakieś prawdopodobieństwo realizacji - nie przekracza ówczesnego niszczyciela.

Nietypowy monitor amerykański

 Na przełomie lat 70- i 80-tych XIX w. flota USA przedstawiała sobą prawdziwy obraz nędzy i rozpaczy. Opierała się na nielicznych, przestarzałych i wyeksploatowanych zaniedbanych monitorach z czasów wojny secesyjnej i… w zasadzie nie miała wiele więcej. Stąd pomysł na poniższy okręt, który wydaje się być dobrą propozycją dla ówczesnej US Navy, o ile tylko politycy zdecydowali by się choć trochę w nią zainwestować. Jest to ciężki monitor, uzbrojony w 3 odprzodowe gwintowane działa 13-calowe (kal. 330 mm), będące przeróbką  gładkolufowych 15-calowych 440-funtówek systemu Dahlgrena. Dla lepszych warunków prowadzenia ognia, działa zostały umieszczone w podwyższonych barbetach. W celu obrony przed torpedowcami, jednostkę wyposażono w 8 działek Gatlinga. Jak na monitor jednostek jest o tyle nietypowa, że uzbrojenie rozmieszczono nie w wieżach działowych, ale w lepiej chroniących och obsługę barbetach. W sumie więc można by się zastanawiać, czy to w ogóle jest monitor, jako że klasę tą definiowano wówczas jako niskoburtowe okręty wieżowe.  Niemniej trudno chyba wskazać bardziej pasującą do niego klasyfikację.
Okręt został zainspirowany rysunkiem znalezionym na forum shipbucket.com, który nieco skorygowałem i do którego opracowałem poniższe warianty malowań.

Dziś mały krążownik liniowy (albo wielki krążownik - klasyfikacja takich okrętów zawsze jest problematyczna) zaproponowany Royal Navy w 1932 r. przez niejakiego Charlesa Lillicrapa. Wydaje się to być ciekawa odpowiedź na pancerniki kieszonkowe. 18500-tonowy (standard) okręt jest uzbrojony w 6 dział 254 mm, rozwija 30 w. i ma pancerz grubości 203 mm – wydają się to być parametry zdecydowanie wystarczające do rozprawienia się niemieckim panzerschiffem. A nawet jeśli nie (w co wątpię) – był także pomysł na nieco większą jednostkę (20000 ton std, 6x254/305, pb 229, 30 w.).

Przebudowa pancernika Captain na krążownik pancerny

 Zatonięcie w sztormie 7 września 1870 r. pancernika Captain było jedną z największych (jeśli nie największą) tragedią w XIX-wiecznej Royal Navy w czasie pokoju. Katastrofa która pochłonęła życie blisko 500 marynarzy była spowodowana zbiegiem różnych czynników, w tym błędnej koncepcji okrętu jako pełnomorskiego okrętu wieżowego z nadzwyczaj niską wolną burtą (2,43 m, w praktyce zaledwie około 2 m), błędów projektowych (nieprawidłowo wyliczona stateczność, zbyt wysokie maszty), wreszcie przeciążenia jednostki, która wyszła cięższa o ponad 700 ton w stosunku do projektu, co przełożyło się na zanurzenie zwiększone o 0,56 m. Wszystko to spowodowało, że okręt zaskoczony w sztormie silnym podmuchem wiatru, mając postawioną część żagli, został położony na burtę, nabrał wody na pokład wieżowy  i finalnie wywrócił się do góry stępką i zatonął.
Tego dramatu dało się jednak uniknąć. Zanim do niego doszło, główny konstruktor Royal Navy, Edward Reed obliczył, że przechył, po którym okręt już się nie podniesie, wynosi zaledwie 21 stopni (dla porównania – w przypadku „konkurencyjnego” HMS Monarch było to 70 stopni!). Gdyby ten fakt wówczas zaalarmował Admiralicję i spowodowała jej interwencję, okręt można by przebudować i w ten sposób uniknąć katastrofy.  I taka potencjalna przebudowa jest tematem tego posta.
Oczywiście, z okrętu usunięto wieże z działami 305 mm, co na samych działach dało oszczędność 100 ton masy. Kadłub na całej długości podwyższono do poziomu dachu dotychczasowych nadbudówek dziobowej i rufowej, dzięki czemu ma teraz bardzo dobrą wysokość ponad 6,5 m na całej długości. W miejscu dotychczasowych wież działowych powstały opancerzone kazamaty, kryjące baterię 8 gwintowanych, odprzodowych dział kal. 229 mm, mogących strzelać na burty oraz dzięki dodatkowym furtom -  także w osi symetrii okrętu w stronę dziobu lub rufy. Zwiększono zapas węgla na okręcie, dzięki czemu zasięg na maszynie parowej wzrósł z 1500 Mm do 3000 Mm. Oczywiście, okręt ma nadal żagle, tak więc w praktyce zasięg jego jest nieograniczony.  Same maszty zostały nieco obniżone i pozbawione wsporników (pierwotnie miały kształt trójnogów) na rzecz klasycznych want. Usunięto opancerzenie dotychczasowych nadbudówek na dziobie i rufie (obecnie już części kadłuba) tak że opancerzenie końcówek kadłuba ma taką samą wysokość, jak opancerzenie na śródokręciu i sięga od 2,43 m nad LW do 1,83 m poniżej LW. Wreszcie okręt otrzymał lekki pokład pancerny na śródokręciu, który może nie poraża grubością, ale na realia lat 70-tych jest zupełnie wystarczający (warto zauważyć, że najprawdopodobniej oryginalnie okręt w ogóle nie posiadał opancerzenia poziomego).
Tak przekonstruowany okręt sklasyfikowałem jako krążownik pancerny (początkowo być może byłby to pancernik II klasy), bowiem swoim potencjałem (kaliber dział, grubość pancerza) nie spełniałby już wymogów stawianych przed pancernikiem w latach 70-tych.  Za to dość dobrze odpowiadałby charakterystykom krążowników pancernych, jakie wkrótce zaczęły się pojawiać w różnych flotach.
Sądzę, że w nowej formie okręt miałby szansę posłużyć do przełomu wieków, przechodząc po drodze jakąś poważniejszą  modernizację i może nawet doczekać czasów Fishera w Admiralicji? Kto wie…
