W dzisiejszym wpisie prezentuję kolejny okręt dla MW Bułgarii. Jest to dość unikalnej jak na początek XX w. konstrukcji krążownik pancernopokładowy. Jego projekt powstał na kanwie dyskusji na temat poprzednio prezentowanego małego krążownika dla tej floty (post z 18 sierpnia 2024 r.). Okręt niniejszy jest niejako asymetryczną odpowiedzią na tureckie krążowniki Hamidiye i Mecidiye, które zwodowano w 1903 r. Asymetryczną, bowiem Bułgaria nie była w stanie pozwolić sobie na okręty znacząco większe i silniejsze niż jednostki tureckie, zatem postanowiono przewyższyć je przynajmniej siłą ognia. Dlatego zastosowano działa relatywnie dużego kalibru – francuskie 194 mm L/40, strzelające 90-kg pociskami. Niestety, w związku z ograniczoną wypornością konieczne były liczne kompromisy, przez co opancerzeniem (pp 35/70, pag 70) ani prędkością (21,5 w.) okręt jakoś specjalnie nie imponuje. Także zasięg nie jest duży. Niemniej, do odgonienia tureckiego krążownika niniejszy okręt powinien wystarczyć. Gorzej, jakby przypłynęły obydwa naraz, ale temu zaradzę w odrębnym wpisie – jak pamiętamy, jest „na stole” propozycja mini-Garibaldiego dla Bułgarii ;)
Oczywiście, okręt pełni także funkcję jednostki reprezentacyjnej i okazjonalnego jachtu książęcego (później carskiego). Dlatego posiada obszerne i wygodne (jak na jednostkę tej wielkości) apartamenty w rufowej części kadłuba i w nadbudówce, a także nieodzowną galeryjkę rufową :)
