Flota polska w XIX w. - nowe fregaty

Wobec znacznego w latach 60-tych rozwoju pruskich sił krążowniczych (budowa 5 fregat typu Arcona, 2 korwet typu Nymphe i 2 korwet typu Augusta) koniecznym wydaje się zbudowanie analogicznych nowych jednostek dla naszej floty. Najpierw prezentuję fregatę – mająca na swoim uzbrojeniu, obok tradycyjnej artylerii gładkolufowej, także działa gwintowane, tworzące w całości główną baterię. Na tle pruskich odpowiedników , mających wówczas na uzbrojeniu co najwyżej gładko lufowe 68-funtówki (a nawet po ich przezbrojeniu w 1870 r. w gwintowane działa 150 mm), okręt prezentuje się bardzo korzystnie. Jest też od nich sporo szybszy (dopiero korweta Freya ukończona w 1876 r. będzie od pary naszych fregat szybsza, ale za to znacznie słabsza – bo na jej uzbrojenie składać się będzie z 8 dział 150 mm).
