Brytyjską
odpowiedzią na przedstawiony w poprzednim poście niemiecki pancernik
mógłby być poniższy okręt. Bazą do jego opracowania był pochodzący z
końca XIX w. typ Canopus, który został wydłużony tak, by zmieścić dwie
dodatkowe wieże dział 305 mm. Opancerzenie burtowe wydaje się na
pierwszy rzut oka niezbyt okazale, ale zakładam, że byłoby wykonane ze
stali nawęglanej Harveya, która była około półtora raza wytrzymalsza od
klasycznego pancerza stalowego. Ówcześnie Brytyjczycy uznali, że już 6
cali (152 mm) pancerza nawęglanego na burcie w typie Canopus jest
wartością całkowicie wystarczającą, więc w tym kontekście pancerz
grubości 254 mm nie wydaje się już taki cienki. Zresztą, historycznie
następnym brytyjskim pancernikiem z pancerzem grubszym niż 254 mm był
dopiero... Dreadnought!
