Gdy flota austro-węgierska przymierzała się do budowy pancerników
później znanych jako typ Radetzky, opracowanych zostało pięć wariantów nowych
jednostek. Jednym z nich był pancernik uzbrojony w 8 dział 280 mm L/45 w
czterech wieżach dwudziałowych (dwie w linii symetrii jednostki i dwie burtowe)
oraz 16 dział 100 mm w kazamatach. Prawdopodobnie jednostka ta była by nieco
większa niż zbudowany faktycznie pancernik Radetzky, być może mając wyporność
rzędu 16.000 ton. Ostatecznie uznano to z niepraktyczne i zbyt kosztowne
(większy okręt wymagałby zbudowania nowego doku pływającego), jednak
zastanawiam się, czy nie dało by się skonstruować okrętu o zbliżonych
parametrach w wymiarach prawdziwego Radetzky’ego? Okazuje że dało by się i to bez większego
problemu – co w sumie nie dziwi, bo zestaw 8x280 raczej nie powinien ważyć więcej
niż 4x305 i 8x240. A zaoszczędzoną masę można spożytkować na poprawę
opancerzenia, co też uczyniłem;-)
